Shrewsbury Town College and University wants to maintain a clear line of communication between parents and carers to ensure that their child is receiving the support and guidance that they need.

Our education provider, SCL Education, holds a direct contract with the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA), the government agency accountable for funding education and skills for children, young people and adults.
As an ESFA partner, they have access to funding for the education of people aged 16-19 years. Providing that the student is of the correct age and are eligible for funding, most courses will be fully funded and therefore free of charge to the student.

Whilst student programmes are fully funded, students will need to consider costs for textbooks and travel costs to and from training, education and matches.
There is also a cost for purchasing the training kit at the start of the course, further details about this will be provided upon your acceptance onto the course.
All students enrolled on the programme can apply for bursaries if their household income is at or below the designated threshold*, students may also be entitled to have free school meals.
These initiatives are there to remove any barriers to education and further details on how this works will be provided as part of the enrolment process onto the programme.

If you have an Education, Health and Care plan (EHCP), we will aim to meet the outcomes and enable you to have the best experience and opportunities to success.
It is important that you contact the Learning Support/SEND team as soon as possible to tell us if you think you might be entitled to Exam Access Arrangements. This ensures that these can be arranged in advance and according to the Awarding Organisation criteria and timeframes.

When your son or daughter comes into College to enrol, we will sit down with them and look at their results. If they have not achieved the entry requirements for the study programme they applied to, we will discuss alternative choices with them and offer appropriate Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG). Regardless we will have a course for every student no matter the grades.
All students complete an initial assessment before starting their programme, which will help us, and them, identify any learning support requirements they might have. If you are able to make us aware of any additional support requirements prior to them starting College, this will enable us to put any support measures or specialist equipment in place from their first day.
Throughout the year we’ll be holding progression evenings, informing parents of individual students progress. These events will provide students and parents an opportunity to engage with our tutors and ask questions around grades and behaviour. A calendar will be circulated among parents and students throughout the year.
