Student Support

Shrewsbury Town College and University provides support with careers advice, employment, work placements, and much more to help you prepare for your future.

Our aim is to support student success. We can help students who are at risk of not completing their course and to support them to reach their full potential. The STC&U team works with students to identify areas of academic concern, advise on options available and suggest a holistic support plan.

We want to ensure that students are supported throughout their studies, which is why we hold regular wellbeing and performance one to one meetings.

Developing your success

We understand that students can sometimes encounter difficulties while studying. As part of a plan to support individual students, we want too:

  • Identify areas where you may be struggling
  • Advise you on the available options
  • Recommend appropriate support

Our education team is on hand to meet with students on a one-to-one basis each week and students can book mentoring sessions with tutors to discuss progression, course work and any concerns students may have. In addition to this, we have mental health first aiders on hand on and off the pitch to support students with their individual wellbeing as well as physical & mental health. If students ever feel the need to speak with the team.

Nuturing your progress

Students will also attend regular Progress Review 1:1 meetings with the Student Support Tutor, where individual targets are set and reviewed. In these sessions students will also get the opportunity to gain additional qualifications such as UEFA C coaching and referee qualifications.

Within the sessions we also cover:

  • Independent living skills
  • Mental health & wellbeing
  • First aid
  • Employability skills

The Progress Coach’s that deliver these sessions also help students plan a schedules work plan and students are encouraged to seek their on-going advice and support. Tutors also monitor progress and help prepare for progression to the next stage of education or training /employment.
